At the end of each day for the last few years, I’ve recorded data on 58 unique feelings, or affective states. I record everything I experienced on a scale of 0 to 10. Paired with data on where I was on each day, I can see a typical emotional profile of my experiences in each place. The 58 feelings are sorted by their correlation with overall happiness. For more details on this classification of feelings, see a previous post. This makes five rough groups:
happy/positive feelings in orange
productive/positive feelings in yellow
neutral/physical feelings in green
challenging/difficult feelings in light blue
despondent/negative feelings in dark blue
These profiles are more reflective of the occasion for traveling more so than how much I liked the city itself.
